Artifacial

about

Artifacial is a long term art/research project started in 1993 by Arthur Elsenaar. It explores the external controlled human face as a site for artistic expression. Controlling the facial muscles by means of computer controlled electric stimulation has unveiled an unknown expressive potential of the human face.

Contrary to traditional facial expression research (Duchenne de Boulogne, Ekman), electro-facial choreography is not dealing with the face as a site for the expression of the emotions or emphasis of the spoken word, but instead as a site for computational expression and facial dance.
